All photos were provided by the incredible Le Image Events.
Romance and Rain
The famous saying about rain on your wedding day especially rings true in the North East. Rachel and Laurence were lucky enough to have a sprinkling of love and luck from the gods on the day they decided to get married. Gray clouds cuddled around the bustling city, as Rachel, Laurence, their friends, and families, all joined together to celebrate undying love.
Looking Like A Million Bucks
Rachel wore a high-end gown she found in the garment district of New York City. This mermaid silhouette dress hugged every inch of her slender frame. She particularly wanted to show off her arms with a cute lace strap detail. She opted for a half-up half-down hair do and smoky eye to really make her ojos pop!
Flowers from the Gods
For flowers, Rachel wanted a lot of hot pink peonies and dahlias to rest among the specially selected succulents that meant so much to her. As a student in college, she studied Spanish and went abroad to Guatamala, Urugay, and Peru to continue her lessons. She fell deeply in love with the indigenous flowers of these nations, and wanted to bring them forward as a focal point at her Latin-flavored fiesta.
Getting to the Church on Time
The historic Trinity Church of Manhattan was built in 1698 on Wall Street, facing the Hudson River. This gothic stone behemoth boasts amazing architecture—such as spires and buttresses. Very few weddings are performed at this church—making Rachel and Laurence’s nuptials even ore special. On the way out of the church, onlookers crowded the doors thinking it might be a celebrity wedding. It certainly felt like one. The ceremony was an orthodox Episcopalian service, with readings by each of Rachel and Laurence’s siblings. A heartfelt ceremony rooted deep in tradition.
A Ferry Tale Away
Just a few blocks away from the church, the guests walked to the Ferry Landing in lower Manhattan. This walk was accompanied by a brass band that brought even more attention to the glowing couple. Even the police stopped to take a picture with the happy couple. Once at the Ferry Landing, the weather started to pick up. Wind ripped through the canyons created by skyscrapers. We handed out cheap umbrellas and ferry tickets to all the guests who would be making it across the river to the reception. But a little drizzle never hurt anyone, and the party roared—backed the entire time by the three piece brass band!
A Gran Entrance
Walking in to Gran Electrica is like walking in to a Dia De Los Muertes funland. It is a hip urban eatery with small skeletal details throughout the venue. Their cool cuisine and fun drink combos were really popular among the guests. The bride and groom specifically loved the spicy margaritas whipped up by their talented bartenders. We decorated the space modestly with candles, succulents, and papel picado—to really accentuate the Latin-flavor of the event.
Dancing in the Rain
Rachel and Laurence made sure to decorate minimally to allow for the most room for dancing possible. They had taken special dance lessons for their first dance, a wonderful tango to “Stand By Me”. Not A dry eye… or outfit… was in the house, especially since the heavens opened up right when they reached the dance floor and began the festivities. Regardless, everyone was happy to get a little soaked and enjoy the party.
Happily Ever After
This was such a fun wedding to be a part of! Thank you to Rachel and Laurence for having the confidence in Ivory & Lace Creative Weddings to help them plan their perfect New York City wedding. We love traveling with and for our couples, no matter where it takes us.
